Monkey cooperation and fairness

A pair of capuchin monkeys (Cebus apella) show very compelling signs of cooperation and a sense of fairness, by working together to solve a problem using tools, and then sharing the reward.

They also seem to understand fairness: when unequal rewards are given to one monkey and not another, the monkey receiving the lesser treat would rather go hungry than accept anything less than an equal reward.

The token exchange from the latter half of the video is interesting in and of itself; I'm sure it took a lot of training. There is another example of its usage by the same experimenter here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=aAFQ5kUHPkY

Belgian health minister irked by Israel deputy minister's refusal to shake hands - Haaretz Daily Newspaper | Israel News

Belgium’s health minister Laurette Onkelinx said she was “profoundly troubled” by the behavior of her Israeli counterpart, Yaakov Litzman, after the haredi Orthodox minister refused to shake her hand at a conference.

Litzman, Israel’s deputy minister for health, belongs to the haredi Torah Judaism party and considers it forbidden to touch members of the opposite sex.

Laurette Onkelinx. “This is the second time a minister refuses to shake my hand because I am a woman. The first was Iranian. The second one was the Israeli health minister here in Geneva. This kind of fundamentalist attitude, connected to a certain perception of religion and women, profoundly troubles me.”

    Collax took on the the Ben Hur Server Appliance and bade it bigger and better. My responsibilities there focused with time more towards longer term feature development projects and strategic developments and GUI optimisations. In our team of developers I was usually the one entrusted with complex problems, strategic feature developments and integration of 3rd party software. Especially towards the end with great focus on networking technologies. But much of that job was always maintaining and modernising our Linux distribution. Some of my projects where stabilising the IPSec function by debugging and patching a Openswan bug developing from ground up a more flexible routing system which could make routing decisions not only based on source and target network but also network services and local process classification. As for every new feature the challenge was not only in making it work but much more important how to integrate and represent it well in the GUI. designing from ground up the technical and licensing framework that allowed us to sell software very flexible on a subscription basis. mentoring new apprentices Moderating the customer support portal
